Chapter Nine
Tuesday afternoon Kendra took Bella to the dog park. They had walked the length of one trail and Kendra was sitting on a bench watching Bella wander around the enclosed area. She drew a gasp as she saw two familiar figures entering the area. One of the twins bent down and unleashed Winston and he headed over to Bella to do the usual doggy greeting. The boys walked toward Kendra, both dressed in jeans and a black T-shirt.
She held her breath. What to do? Should she stay there or should she stand and leave? In the end, she discovered she was shaking too much to stand so she just sat and waited.
They had big grins on their faces as they approached her and she immediately thought of Lynne’s exercise when she had her session. She blushed and tried to look away.
“Hello there. How are you?”
“Um…I’m fine thanks.”
By now, the men were at her bench. Should she move over for them? The decision was taken out of her hands when one sat on the grass, dropping a water bottle beside him and the other sat on the bench, but with enough distance between them that she did not feel crowded.
The one on the grass spoke up. “I’m Gabe. You probably can’t tell us apart but I am the handsome one.” Then he winked at her.
She could not help but giggle at his comment as his brother said to him, “You always say that. Personally I know it isn’t true.” He held out his hand to her. “Hi, I’m Marc.”
Kendra tried to calm her racing heart as she put her hand in his and said quietly, “I’m Kendra.”
She was saved from any further comment by the arrival of both dogs. Bella practically leapt on Gabe and Winston flopped down on her feet and rolled over. She leant forward and rubbed his tummy.
“You will have a friend for life now. He loves that,” Marc said.
Kendra looked up at him and noticed he had a small dark freckle at the side of his left eye. She looked at his brother but he had none. Now she had a way of identifying them. Both men were very handsome, with amazing smiles that lit up their faces. She found herself thinking about their mouths before Bella ran off with Gabe’s water bottle and Kendra was worried she would break it. Bella loved to play with bottles but this one was not hers.
“Oh no, I am sorry. Bella! Bella, come here!” She went to stand but Gabe touched her knee.
“Don’t worry, it is only a plastic bottle. Anyway, she just wants to have some fun.” He stood and chased after her, laughing. She and Marc watched as the pair of them began chasing each other. Gabe had plenty of chances to catch her but instead he let her think she was winning.
“I hope you don’t mind meeting us like this, Kendra. My brother is a bit of a crazy man but he would never do anything to hurt you.
